Join Hougaard Malan for an immersive learning experience on the Overberg coastline.
- Limited to 6 participants
The Walker Bay coastline has a plethora of elements that contribute to making it an incredible destination for seascape photography.
The southern coastline of the bay, known as De Kelders, features cliffs of jagged rock pinnacles that make countless small bays and points, creating fantastic lines that lead the eye into the scene. These jagged rocks are a long exposure paradise, offering a juxtaposition of rugged coastline with soft, blurred water and clouds. Shooting north from this jagged coastline offers the beautiful Hermanus and Kogelberg mountains as a backdrop, which make it easy to compose images with beautiful depth.
The eastern coastline is part of the Walker Bay NR and is a scene very reminiscent of Arniston - white sandstone cliffs, beaten and battered by the waves. Both of these coastlines can be composed in multiple directions, offering great flexibility with the weather.
This workshop will only accept 6 participants, to keep the experience relaxing and intimate and to allow each participant plenty of one-on-one attention from the guide. This also makes the workshop material and schedule very flexible so that we can move around as the light demands.
NB - This workshop is prioritised towards shooting and not class time or presentations. It is aimed at people with a reasonable amount of experience in landscape photography who want to shoot under the guidance of a professional. If you are a beginner looking to learn the basics, please look at our school course.
I have been scouting far and wide for a new destination to replace Arniston as my main seascape workshop location. I tried many places from the west coast to De Hoop and Nature's Valley, but settled on Walker Bay, for its fantastic seascapes, easy access, excellent safety as well as the proximity to the farmlands.
I am looking forward to exploring the De Kelders coastline with fellow passionate photographers.
